Sleep
like there are no bills to pay
and games to play
and awful words still left to say
Sleep
like you’re not scared of tomorrow,
shielded from the misted sorrow,
isolated time to borrow
dreading as I do the morrow.
Sleep
with your hair back
in my lap
tracing tiny ovals
on your skin to relax
holding your hand
deep breaths
think of sand
and here still feel grounded
the safety of land.
Sleep
or lay your head and try,
eyes are closed don’t see you cry,
in all this loneliness can I,
find but one sweet thing to get by?
Sleep
as if you are at peace
a meaner feat than many know
Sleep
as if you are not tortured
by the scars that do not show
Sleep
as if the monsters cannot stalk me still
in dreams.
Sleep
with conscience clear no conscious here…
like I deserve release…
What a lovely poem! I like the rhythm too. Very well done!
